Gone to ISNA Chicago - TimeStamp Posting Activated

As Salaam Alaykum Wa Rahamtullah,

I have written posts for the next week and activated TimeStamp posting. They will be posted in frequent intervals (about a day) automatically. By the time this message is posted, I probably would have already left for ISNA Chicago. I am driving up to Chicago with my cousins and friends, Insha-Allah. I dont know if I will be able to check my mail or blog, as the weekend is packed with organizational meetings, leadership training and planning workshops, lectures, and book/cd shopping. Also not to forget hanging around with Yasir Qadhi and getting to know Mokhtar Maghraoui (trying to see if he is interested in comming to Houston anytime this year for a program). If you have dua’a requests (traveller’s dua’a) you can email me at danish [at] crescentyouth [dot] com or comment on this blog, if I get your request during the weekend I’ll make dua’a for you on the way back, insha-Allah. You can call me as well if you have my number, y’all know who you are.

If yall want anythign from ISNA Chicago, maybe I can pick it up for you.

Was Salaam Alaykum Wa Rahmatullah

Indeed Allah is able to to do ALL things!!

Bismillah, Alhamdulillah, was Salaatus Salaam Ala Rasool Allah

I was attending a halaqa this past weekend, and I must say had loads of fun and felt like I learned a lot. It’s been over maybe 2 months since I have been in a serious dedicated mode of learning. The halaqa was about Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala)’s Asmaa Was Sifaat, not the theoretical or theological aspect of it but the more of the tazkiya, practical, and incorporating these matters in your ibaada (worship) part of it. There was one thing mentioned in class that really struck me and completely blew me away with the intellectuality and thought of a scholar and Imaam of this ummah. Masha-Allah, this shaykh’s works, words, and thought keep on intriguing me more and more as I learn more and more about him.

So I want to jump right into the dilemma. We all know that Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) is able to do all thing or Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) has power over all things. No one questions Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala)’s ability to do all things except for the perverted philosophers. Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) says,

أَنَّ اللَّهَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

“…indeed Allah is able to do all things…” (Surah At Talaaq (65) V. 12)

The above wording of the verse is mention in the Quran multiple times. And Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) here is described by himself as Qadeer, which is used by Allah  (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) 40-50 times in the Quran and majority of the time in the above manner. Insha-Allah I will post my notes up regarding the Names of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) - Al Qadir, Al Qadeer, and Al Muqtadir. And it is true Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) is able to do all things. Or is it??

The dillemma(or so called dilemma): If Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) is able to do all things, then can Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala)

- make a square that has 3 sides or a triangle that has 4 sides?

- create a rock that is so heavy that He (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) cannot lift it??

- create a being more powerful than it???

the questions can go on and on and on and on. If soemone came to you, how would you respond to these??? Think about it?? Can you respond to these questions??

Interestingly many people use these (nonsensical) questions to question Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala)’s ability. Why do I say it is nonsensical, well you will find out soon.

A common answer is YES! Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) can do everything as He is able to do all things. This in and of itself is true, because this is what the Quran says, “Indeed Allah is able to do all things”  And it is a position held by scholars of the past, it was populary held by Dawood Ad Dhahiree (d. 270 AH) and the school that followed him in this matter.

Then another answer also very common is “Allah is abe to do all things and does things that befit His Majesty!” Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) does only those things that befit His Majesty! This is the second opinion represented popularly by Ibn Atiyya (d. 542 AH) and the school that followed him in this matter.

Is there a third opinion, of course there is a third opinion and its is the opinion I thought was the most amazing, and a bit out of the box. And the person that held this opinion was none other than the the ‘Aalim, the Imaam, Shaykh ul Islam Ahmad ibn Taymiyya al Harraanee al Hanbalee (d. 728 AH). Ibn Taymiyya said that Allah is definitley able to do all things, but questions like these and others that are mentioned above are not even things to begin with. a trianle with four sides or a square with three sides is not a thing nor are the others that are mentioned above. I would say utterly nonsensical on the questioner’s part and brialliant and genius with regards to the answerer and answer. May Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) have mercy on Ibn Taymiyya!!

Masha-Allah everytime I hear such awesome statements from the scholars, it does nothing but affirm my reliance upon them. And as the Prophet (Sal Allahu layhi Wa Sallam) said,

“The scholars are inheritors of the Porphets”

and I affirm with full conviction and certainty that the schoalrs are indeed the inheritors of the Prophets not the rulers or ministers or worshippers or warriors and definitely not the scientists.

May Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) have Mercy on Ibn Taymiyya and all the scholars of this religion.

Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) is All Powerful and is able to do all things and He (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) is the one that created the Heavens and the Earth, He (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) is not only able but also has control over all things. Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) is the one that created the Sun and the Moon and He (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) is the one that controls its rising and setting and its visibility and invisibility. He (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) is the one who commanded us to sight it and only through His Will will we be able to sight it and see it.

May Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) give us guidance, the weak amongst us and the strong amongst us, the rich amongst us and the poor amongst us, the educated ones amongst us and the ignorant amongst us. Indeed everyone is in need of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala)’s Guidance and Mercy, as He (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) is the All Powerful and All Able.

Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) Knows best!

R minus 28 days!!

As Salaam

Its less than a month to Ramadaan!!! WoW!!! Exciting ain’t it???

The “R” stands for Ramadaan and there are approximately 28 days remaining (I don’t care what ISNA says, my Ramadaan starts with the sighting of the moon on the global scale, refer here and here for more info on what I am referring to, insha-Allah I will post something up regarding this soon from a few notes from lectures on fiqh of Ramadaan, as we approach Ramadaan)

Insha-Allah this is a reminder to myself first and everyone else as well!

Prepare for Ramadan as the Prophet (Sal Allahu alayhi wa Salaam) used to do by fasting a great deal during the month of Sha’baan (which is now)!

The fiqhi ruling is that fasting during Sha’baan is highly recommended. The discussion regarding this is found here (http://www.islamqa.com/index.php?ref=13729&ln=eng). I recommend everyone to read this ruling followed by this wonderful article by Abu Eesa Nimatullah here (http://www.sunnahonline.com/library/hajj/0006.htm).

Also the issue of the 15th of Sha’baan can be found in many places. Some support it as a night of extra blessings, therefore link to it extra acts of worship that they say should or could be done. So the following are a few Pro-15h of Sha’ban articles and a few that say that there aren’t anything authentic narrations that support this night’s extra blessedness. Read the articles and decide fro yourself insha-Allah.

Pro: This one is by Mufti Taqi Usmani, who needs no introduction as he is very well known specially amongst the Hanafis and Deobandis from the Sub continent. He has this good article here (http://www.albalagh.net/general/shaban.shtml) that supports this night as a time of extra blessings. The first part is excellent and lists the importance of the month of Sha’baan.

The others that say that this night of the 15th of Sha’baan has no basis or authentic narratiosn to support it can be found in the following links-

15th of Sha’baan Session

Specifying the 15th of Sha’baan with Acts of Worship

15th of Sha’baan It’s Significance and Celebration

Fasting and Extra Worship on the 15th of Sha`ban

Allahu A’lam what the truth of the matter is, I follow the opinion that there isn’t any authentic textual evidence to support it. Read for yourself and decide for yourself insha-Allah.

The main focus of this post is to remind everyone to prepare for Ramadaan. My advice and that which I intend to do insha-Allah i as follows-

  1. Make dua’a and dhikr like the one above mentioned int he header or one can maybe get some from this website here or if you live in Houston then request the MSA at University of Houston for a dua’a book and they should have many of these in the office, you can arrange to come pick it up. You can email me to let me know if you want one.
  2. Begin fasting as much as you can during this month, so that during Ramadaan you can step it up even more to get even more thawaab and ajr insha-Allah.
  3. Start reading the Quran as much as you can, so in Ramadan you can focus on the Quran even more insha-Allah.
  4. Try to go to as many circles of knowledge as possible as many of the ibaada as this is the tradition of the salaf according to many. Ramadaan is primarily and strictly for ibaada according to them. And taraweeh prayers usually drain many of the Imaams energy. So you shoudlnt expect many islamic knowledge programs.
  5. Refresh your fiqh of fasting and Ramadaan. I’m sure may people either have books about the fiqh or have notes from classes they attended, if they don’t then you can access free lectures on fiqh of fasting and Ramadaan here at Salim Morgan’s website. I actually mostly follow these rulings except on a few issues. Set aside about 8-9 hours, you can split it up in a week to finish about 3 lectures on this topic.
  6. Once you get this down then focus on more and more dua’a, sincerity and intentions, and try to build your khushoo in these matters. You can refer to works like Madarij As Salikeen of Ibn Al Qayyim (d. 751 AH) or Minhaj Al Qasideen of Ibn Qudamah Al Maqdisee (d. 620 AH) to get pointers regarding issues of khushoo and tazkiya in these areas insha-Allah.

This is just advice from a brother, not a scholarly article or discourse and is meant primarily and specifically for myself and then everyone else insha-Allah.

JazakAllahu

Books of Aqeedah - 1

Books of Aqeedah
Part 1

Ever since the beginnings of deviation and innovation, the scholars of Ahl Us Sunnah never let an innovation or deviation that was espoused about the pure islamic aqeedah go without a rebuttal. Therefore we always saw the Sunni ‘ulemaa write books and letters and treatises on the very foundational aspects of our religion and the beliefs that a muslim has to have in order to attain salvation. The following are books that the scholars wrote which contained the proper creed and aqeedah of Ahl us Sunnah wal Jama’ah. The following is a partial list that only contains the more popular books of aqeedah which are currently being published and in print. I took this list from the Light Upon Light: Fundamentals of Faith 102seminar taught by Abu Ammar Yasir Qadhi with the AlMaghrib Institute. As mentioned in the booklet, these are only books that have been published and is an incomplete list. If we were to include all the books here this list could possible double and triple to the least if not more. And including books that are lost would add an even higher number to this. Also the books mentioned here are only upto the 7th century Hijree. Past this point we have multitudes of books and treatises by some of the most eminent schoalrs like Ibn Taymiyyah, Ibnul Qayyim, Adh Dhahabee, and the list goes on and on. My next post will include another list, which along with this list could be over a 100 books, inshaAllah.

A few points to note about this list are that this is a partial list, a more complete list will be posted in a continuation of this post, and might include books past the 7th century insha’Allah. A absolutely complete list is not in my research capabilities and I would have to ask a lot of scholars and students of knowledge to help with that (Make dua’a that Allah give me the ability to make this available in english, as I am sure its already available in arabic). Secondly, just like any book of hadeeth with isnaads (except for the the Saheehayn, the two Saheehs, Saheeh Bukhaaree and Muslim) there are inauthentic narrations contained within these. It would be a mistake to ascribe these inauthentic narrations to the creed of Ahl Us Sunnah. Another post will follow listing the sources of Islamic aqeedah insha’Allah, until then you can read this wonderful article by Shaykh Naasir al Aql about the Sources, books, methodology, and principles of Islamic aqeedah. As stated by Imaam Malik (d. 179 AH), “Everyone after the Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam will have his sayings accepted and rejected - not so the Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam.[Irshaad al-Saalik 227/1, Jami Bayaan al-Ilm 91/2]

week 7: Focus on what is in YOUR control - Muhammad AlShareef

From the Qur’an

“That is a nation which has already passed away: there awaits it whatever it has earned, while you will have what you have earned. You will not be questioned about what they have been doing.”
(Suratul Baqarah (2) V.141)

[Lessons from this verse] We spend and waste oh-so-much time on
the faults of others, yet on the enormous day we will not be
asked about them.  We will be asked about how we spent OUR
lives. Focus on what is in YOUR control today.

[Suggestions on how to implement these verses]

Muhammad AlShareef: List of Articles and Khutbahs

As Salaam Alaykum Wa Rahamtullah,

After 2 or more years, finally our Ustadh, Muhammad AlShareef, has decided to come back to the city that leads the AlMaghrib Qabaail(My opinion: it’s Qabeelat Hosna - Houston is the best, for those who don’t know). Him coming back to teach another class was good news to me(actually awesome) and it got me thinking - Masha’Allah I have benefited from this brother so much. The shuyookh or speakers that are known in the US that have really influenced me the most in the way I think and the way i view Islam include (not in any particular order) - Yasir Qadhi, Muhammad AlShareef, Ahmad Jibril, and Shaykh Waleed Basyouni. Amongst these I have had the opportunity to meet three (Muhammad, Yasir, and Shaykh Waleed) and hope to meet Ahmed Jibril one day insha’Allah. There are many more that have had a very profound influence in my life and Islam but this is a topic of another post.

One of the most influential things about Muhammad AlShareef are his awesome khutbahs that are so full of emotion and full of wisdom. I know many of you might think that all of Muhammad AlShareef’s khutbahs and articles are available on Khutbah.com. WRONGGGG!!! There are many many more out there that aren’t hosted on the khutbah.com website. WHY?? I don’t know why. Insha’Allah I managed to put all the articles and khutbahs that I could find together. The following is the compilation of whatever I could find on-line. If you know of some khutbah or article(by Muhammad Alshareef) that I have missed out please let me know inshaAllah, and if any of thes following articles/khutbahs are hosted on other sites besides the ones that I have mentioned here, please feel free to comment and include the title of the lecture and the link so i can include it in this list. I am planning on hosting all of these articles on this website so there are available through one host insha’Allah. Until then enjoy and please keep me in your dua’as.

JazakAllahu Khayran
