9. Prohibited to fast a voluntary fast instead of an obligatory one.
One who is allowed not to fast a day in Ramadaan cannot fast something else in its place like a sunnah fast. And this might be obvious that if one is not allowed to do a obligatory fast then he is not allowed to try to do a voluntary fast that day. Also if one has missed six days in Ramadaan due to a valid reason then he/she can’t fast the six days of Shawwaal as sunnah and also say that he is making up the missed days. He should either make up the fasts or do the fasts of Shawwaal. And Allah Knows Best

If you are fasting to make up for validly missed fasts in ramadan, is it permissible to break them without a valid reason?
Also, is it permissible to break a nafl fast?
