Yasir Qadhi: Practical Steps to Seek Islamic Knowledge in America (Audio)

UPDATE: The download link is at the bottom and The Q&A is up as well – Click Here!!

asSalaam ‘alaykum wa Rahamtullah,

This is in regards to this post from earlier in the week. I got my hands on the audio alhamdulillah. I thought this was an awesome lecture, and really benefited from the few ahadith Shaykh Yasir Qadhi quoted that I had never heard before. The other stuff he talked about was discussed many times before and I have heard it multiple times alhamdulillah. An example of this is at the lecture at MIST National in the Summer of ’06 in Houston, TX entitled – Advice from an Older Brother.

One thing I noticed about this talk was that he heavily emphasized learning two fields in Islam that every Muslim should ahve a basic fundamental understanding of, namely, ‘Aqeedah (He said theology, I’m not too comfortable using the word yet) and Fiqh. And he recommended some books and audio lectures that everyone should read or listen to. They are:

‘Aqeedah
Books:
Fundamentals of Tawheed by Bilal Philips
Critical Study of Shirk by Yasir Qadhi

Audio:
The Two Shahadas
[alHuda Books Houston] [Muslim Audio] [ILMQuest]by Yasir Qadhi ($25 is cheapest at alHuda)
Critical Analysis of Shirk [Part 1 Part 2 Part 3] by Yasir Qadhi

Fiqh
Books:Fiqh Made Easy by Saalih alSadlaan
A Summary Of Islamic Jurisprudence by Shaykh Salih Al Fawzan

He also mentioned two books for the Seerah:

He highly recommended the book by Shaykh SafiurRahman Mubarakpuri entitled: The Sealed Nectar. And also the Seerah book by Martin Lings – “Muhammad (SAW): His Life Based on the Earliest Sources”, but mentioned that there are a few points of theology in the book that might be incorrect.

The available audio itself – Pros – I edited all the technical issues that we had and most of the disturbances. Also took out long pauses and breaks or questions about missed information from the call. Cons – No Q&A (read further) and no download for right now. I will post the Q&A later in the week insha’Allah, Make du’aa to Allah. There were about 14 amazing and really juicy (some of them) questions. I have it ready just need time to perfect it a bit more insha’Allah, and possibly post it here. And the download I am holding off on, it will take me a while to get all the files together into a high quality mp3 and also need to get approval from CZ MSA (The best MSA Zone in N. America), isnha’Allah. So just sit tight, and until then just listen to the audio insha’Allah!

Online Resources for Studying the Sciences of Hadith

asSalaam ‘alaykum wa Rahmatullah,

Since we have the Chain of Command: Sciences of Hadith alMaghrib Institute Seminar coming to Houston the last two weekends of June, insha’Allah, I thought I start preparing for it, even though there is that chance I might not be in Houston during that time. I have noticed that if I don’t mentally prepare myself for an alMaghrib class it is hard for me to get the most benefit out of it. due to this I have skipped a few in the past year. Whereas the years before I didn’t skip out on a single one! So I first decided to track down all the online resources available. Most of the audio I have listened to already, what is left is the articles, and e-books, insha’Allah. So the following is the result of my search. If anyone knows of any other articles, posts, links that i should include in here please let me know, insha’Allah. jazakallahu khayran. was Salaam ‘alaykum wa Rahmatullah.

Books of Aqeedah – 1

Books of Aqeedah
Part 1

Ever since the beginnings of deviation and innovation, the scholars of Ahl Us Sunnah never let an innovation or deviation that was espoused about the pure islamic aqeedah go without a rebuttal. Therefore we always saw the Sunni ‘ulemaa write books and letters and treatises on the very foundational aspects of our religion and the beliefs that a muslim has to have in order to attain salvation. The following are books that the scholars wrote which contained the proper creed and aqeedah of Ahl us Sunnah wal Jama’ah. The following is a partial list that only contains the more popular books of aqeedah which are currently being published and in print. I took this list from the Light Upon Light: Fundamentals of Faith 102seminar taught by Abu Ammar Yasir Qadhi with the AlMaghrib Institute. As mentioned in the booklet, these are only books that have been published and is an incomplete list. If we were to include all the books here this list could possible double and triple to the least if not more. And including books that are lost would add an even higher number to this. Also the books mentioned here are only upto the 7th century Hijree. Past this point we have multitudes of books and treatises by some of the most eminent schoalrs like Ibn Taymiyyah, Ibnul Qayyim, Adh Dhahabee, and the list goes on and on. My next post will include another list, which along with this list could be over a 100 books, inshaAllah.

A few points to note about this list are that this is a partial list, a more complete list will be posted in a continuation of this post, and might include books past the 7th century insha’Allah. A absolutely complete list is not in my research capabilities and I would have to ask a lot of scholars and students of knowledge to help with that (Make dua’a that Allah give me the ability to make this available in english, as I am sure its already available in arabic). Secondly, just like any book of hadeeth with isnaads (except for the the Saheehayn, the two Saheehs, Saheeh Bukhaaree and Muslim) there are inauthentic narrations contained within these. It would be a mistake to ascribe these inauthentic narrations to the creed of Ahl Us Sunnah. Another post will follow listing the sources of Islamic aqeedah insha’Allah, until then you can read this wonderful article by Shaykh Naasir al Aql about the Sources, books, methodology, and principles of Islamic aqeedah. As stated by Imaam Malik (d. 179 AH), “Everyone after the Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam will have his sayings accepted and rejected – not so the Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam.[Irshaad al-Saalik 227/1, Jami Bayaan al-Ilm 91/2]

week 7: Focus on what is in YOUR control – Muhammad AlShareef

From the Qur’an

“That is a nation which has already passed away: there awaits it whatever it has earned, while you will have what you have earned. You will not be questioned about what they have been doing.”
(Suratul Baqarah (2) V.141)

[Lessons from this verse] We spend and waste oh-so-much time on
the faults of others, yet on the enormous day we will not be
asked about them.  We will be asked about how we spent OUR
lives. Focus on what is in YOUR control today.

[Suggestions on how to implement these verses]

Muhammad AlShareef: List of Articles and Khutbahs

As Salaam Alaykum Wa Rahamtullah,

After 2 or more years, finally our Ustadh, Muhammad AlShareef, has decided to come back to the city that leads the AlMaghrib Qabaail(My opinion: it’s Qabeelat Hosna – Houston is the best, for those who don’t know). Him coming back to teach another class was good news to me(actually awesome) and it got me thinking – Masha’Allah I have benefited from this brother so much. The shuyookh or speakers that are known in the US that have really influenced me the most in the way I think and the way i view Islam include (not in any particular order) – Yasir Qadhi, Muhammad AlShareef, Ahmad Jibril, and Shaykh Waleed Basyouni. Amongst these I have had the opportunity to meet three (Muhammad, Yasir, and Shaykh Waleed) and hope to meet Ahmed Jibril one day insha’Allah. There are many more that have had a very profound influence in my life and Islam but this is a topic of another post.

One of the most influential things about Muhammad AlShareef are his awesome khutbahs that are so full of emotion and full of wisdom. I know many of you might think that all of Muhammad AlShareef’s khutbahs and articles are available on Khutbah.com. WRONGGGG!!! There are many many more out there that aren’t hosted on the khutbah.com website. WHY?? I don’t know why. Insha’Allah I managed to put all the articles and khutbahs that I could find together. The following is the compilation of whatever I could find on-line. If you know of some khutbah or article(by Muhammad Alshareef) that I have missed out please let me know inshaAllah, and if any of thes following articles/khutbahs are hosted on other sites besides the ones that I have mentioned here, please feel free to comment and include the title of the lecture and the link so i can include it in this list. I am planning on hosting all of these articles on this website so there are available through one host insha’Allah. Until then enjoy and please keep me in your dua’as.

JazakAllahu Khayran

Fiqh As Sawm

Islamic Rulings Surrounding Ramadhan and Fasting. Based on “Manar As Sabeel Fi Sharh Ad Daleel” Of Shaykh Ibraheem ibn Duwaiyan (d. 1353 AH) as explained by Br. Salim Morgan. Transcribed and Edited By Ibn Al Hyderabadee
