Yasir Qadhi: Practical Steps to Seek Islamic Knowledge in America (Audio)

UPDATE: The download link is at the bottom and The Q&A is up as well – Click Here!!

asSalaam ‘alaykum wa Rahamtullah,

This is in regards to this post from earlier in the week. I got my hands on the audio alhamdulillah. I thought this was an awesome lecture, and really benefited from the few ahadith Shaykh Yasir Qadhi quoted that I had never heard before. The other stuff he talked about was discussed many times before and I have heard it multiple times alhamdulillah. An example of this is at the lecture at MIST National in the Summer of ’06 in Houston, TX entitled – Advice from an Older Brother.

One thing I noticed about this talk was that he heavily emphasized learning two fields in Islam that every Muslim should ahve a basic fundamental understanding of, namely, ‘Aqeedah (He said theology, I’m not too comfortable using the word yet) and Fiqh. And he recommended some books and audio lectures that everyone should read or listen to. They are:

‘Aqeedah
Books:
Fundamentals of Tawheed by Bilal Philips
Critical Study of Shirk by Yasir Qadhi

Audio:
The Two Shahadas
[alHuda Books Houston] [Muslim Audio] [ILMQuest]by Yasir Qadhi ($25 is cheapest at alHuda)
Critical Analysis of Shirk [Part 1 Part 2 Part 3] by Yasir Qadhi

Fiqh
Books:Fiqh Made Easy by Saalih alSadlaan
A Summary Of Islamic Jurisprudence by Shaykh Salih Al Fawzan

He also mentioned two books for the Seerah:

He highly recommended the book by Shaykh SafiurRahman Mubarakpuri entitled: The Sealed Nectar. And also the Seerah book by Martin Lings – “Muhammad (SAW): His Life Based on the Earliest Sources”, but mentioned that there are a few points of theology in the book that might be incorrect.

The available audio itself – Pros – I edited all the technical issues that we had and most of the disturbances. Also took out long pauses and breaks or questions about missed information from the call. Cons – No Q&A (read further) and no download for right now. I will post the Q&A later in the week insha’Allah, Make du’aa to Allah. There were about 14 amazing and really juicy (some of them) questions. I have it ready just need time to perfect it a bit more insha’Allah, and possibly post it here. And the download I am holding off on, it will take me a while to get all the files together into a high quality mp3 and also need to get approval from CZ MSA (The best MSA Zone in N. America), isnha’Allah. So just sit tight, and until then just listen to the audio insha’Allah!

The Perfect Balance: Moderation of Ahli Sunnah wal Jamah by AbdulRahman Chao

asSalaam ‘alaykum wa Rahmatullah, I present to you an awesome program by a great guy, a good friend, and an awesome brother – Synkronyzer – in Houston, TX

MSA @ UH and ISGH
presents

The Perfect Balance: The Moderation of Ahli Sunnha wal Jama’ah
Taught by
Shaykh AbdulRahman Chao

Saturday April 14th
Mission Bend Masjid alHamza
Dhuhr (2PM) to Isha (9:15PM)

Br AbdulRahman ibn Esa Chao
AbdulRahman Chao is an Islamic Studies teacher and khateeb at Darussalam Masjid and Alhuda School in College Park, Maryland. In the Summer of 2006, he became one of the youngest people to graduate from the Islamic University of Medinah at age 21. He memorized the Quran at a young age and used to study at the IIASA in Virginia. Besides English, he is fluent in Arabic, Mandarin and speaks Urdu.

The Perfect Balance: The Moderation of Ahli Sunnah wal Jama’ah
In this seminar Shyakh AbdulRahman Chao will teach us how the poeple that stick to the Sunnah avoid falling into religious extremes when they follow the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). After all the only yard-stick we have that is infallible are the Quran and Sunnah. Thus this path is the path that is the most moderate, it guides us to not infringe upon the rights of our creator as well as the rights of others. It is the most balanced path, where it shows us through the example of the Prophet (sal Allahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam) to balance our hereafter with the this world and the deen with the dunya. We all supplicate multiple times a day to be upon the straight path, and little do we realize that this straight path is the most perfect path which is the most moderate path devoid of religious extremes. Int he seminar, the instructor will give an analysis of how the People of the SUnnah (Ahlus Sunnah) fall in the middle, avoiding extremes, of not only the sects within ISlam but also they fall in the middle path between all the other religions.
I refer you to a quote regarding this by Ibn Taymiyya (RA) here!

Adhaan from Dammaaj, Yemen: Shaykh Yahya alHajooree

asSalaamu ‘alaykum wa Rahamtullaaah,

Masha’Allah a dear brother (AbdulHasib) sent me this audio recording entitled “Giving the Adhaan according to the Sunnah”. Shaykh Yahya alHajooree – hafidhuhullah – is giving the adhaan in this 2 minute piece. I haven’t been able to find a bio of Shaykh Yahya alHajooree on the web in English. If someone does then please comment with the link, jazakAllahu khayran. From what I have heard he is heading up Dar alHadeeth in Dammaaj, Yemen. The madrasah is like a camp style setting where they have a traditional method of instruction. They have classes for beginner students as there are many foreign students over there. Also they have accomodations for sisters to study as well as Shaykh Muqbil’s – rahimullah – daughter is an alimah and she intructs the female students form what I understand. If anyone knows better then please correct me. jazakAllahu khayran. waAllahu ‘Alam.

Mid Ramadhân Reminder by Suhaib Webb

The following is a recording done over a year ago by a dear brother. The audio is only about 10 minutes in which Imām Suhaib Webb talks about benefiting from the rest of Ramadhân that which is left over after clarifying what studies he has done. This recording was done at a masjid in Houston. Inshā‘Allâh I will try posting a second lecture done by Imām Suhaib Webb at MSA at University of Houston. Imām Suhaib Webb is a pretty good speaker and has many times very good advice but I dont necessarily agree with his approach to a few things and his methodology. Allah Knows Best.

Masturbation in Islam: Compilation of Articles and Fatwas

Bismillah Alhamdulillah was Salaatus Salaam ‘ala RasoolAllah, Sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam

In the past few days for some reason I have recieved an influx of visitors to the website and most people have been, masha’Allah reading the posts on the Fiqh of Fasting (after all it’s Ramadhan). The most popular amongst the posts for some reason (we live in the West) is the one on Masturbation. So acting upon the interests of the visitors to this website I have decided to compile a list of beneficial articles talking about Masturbation, the dangers of this habit and ways one can get rid of this addictive habit, insha’Allah. I know it sounds sick but this need sot addressed, the sooner one gets rid of this habit the better. Our religion is the religion revealed to the Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa Sallam) form none other than our Creator, Allah and there is no shame in religion. It is better we tackle this issue directly instead of shying away from it. It is sick, but it needs to be addressed.

So the first thing that I found was the Wikipedia entry on the issue of Masturbation, which is almost completely useless except for the part on its risks and the risks of compulsive masturbation, unless one likes to know about the word’s etmology, techniques for males and females, and its history in cultures and religion then one should just stick to the risks of masturbation. I would still reccomend reading these from Wikipedia-

1. Health and Psychological Effects of Masturbation

Besides this there seems to be a plethora of articles from Muslim sources that talk about the issue of masturbation and its islamic ruling, and there are a few sources that talk about how to get rid of this habit.

The Ruling on Masturbation and conditions that may allow for it

Okay, first things first, what is the ruling on Masturbation in Islam, well here it is from IslamQA, there were literally half a dozen websites that just reproduced this same fatwa again and again (and again)-

2. Ruling on Masturbation and ways to cure it (IslamQA)

The ruling seems to be the same across the board for this. If one is having trouble quitting then he should write down the tips and advice and carry it around to remind oneself.

3. Masturbation is sinful and prohibitively disliked according to Hanafi Fiqh

4. Masturbation: A disastrous problem faced by the Youth

I thought this one was a bit comical, atleast the title made me laugh a little bit-

5. Solo Sex (Male and Female Masturbation (alinaam.org)

6. Remedy for Masturbation (alinaam.org)

From Islam Online-

7. The Fatwa on Masturbation

8. How to Give Up Masturbation

9. Masturbation for Both Males and Females: A New Approach (IslamOnline)
From Fiqh mailing lists-

10. Hanafi and Hanbali ruling on Masturbation

Masturbation during Ramadhaan or Fasting

11. Masturbation in Ramadaan (IslamOnline)

12. Masturbation during Ramadaan and issues related to it (Fatwa-Online.com)

13. Invalidation of fast due to Masturbation (IslamQA)

14. Masturbation Breaks the Fast (IslamToday)

Other Non-Muslim and Secular Sources

15. Steps in Overcomming Masturbation

16. Reversing the Effects of Over Masturbation

And Allah Knows Best

May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon the Prophet, Sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam, his family and companions. Ameen
