The Scholar and the Tyrant

asSalaam ‘alaykum wa Rahamtullah,

SubhanAllah this is one awesome production by some of the youth in Houston. It was first found here at MuslimObserver‘s blog who also happens to be one of the actors, I wont say who though. Click here, watch the play and enjoy. BTW it was first played at the Texas Da’wah Conference ’06 this past December!

Yasir Qadhi @ ISNA ’06: Intelligent Faith: The Role of Reason and Intellect in Islam

asSalaam ‘alaykum wa Rahamtullah,

Yes it is finally on…it is finally on Google Video. I attended this talk at the ISNA 2006 Conference this past September ’06 by Yasir Qadhi. This was an awesome lecture masha’Allah. It was actually done at the MSA Executive Leadership Conference which ran parallel to the ISNA and MSA National Conferences. Also to note that a similar topic was presented by Yasir Qadhi at TDC ’06 as well but in a much more detailed manner, alhamdulillah. I had taken notes on both but didn’t get around to posting this up on my blog. But I have another surprise for everyone by Yasir Qadhi soon, possible from the ISNA ’06 conference *hint* *hint* (for thsoe who were there). Notes for this lecture from what I remmeber can be found here at nuqtah’s blog, I don’t think I have seen any other blog with notes on thsi talk. Allahu ‘Alam. Until then enjoy!

Yasir Qadhi at TDC ’06: Islam: A Light for the Ages: Final Session

asSalaam ‘alaykum wa Rahamtullahi wa Barakatuh,

I guess it is time to begin rolling out the videos and speeches at TDC this past year alhamdulillah. Of course the stuff that isn’t copyrighted. So to start the series of videos off, we have Yasir Qadhi giving the final talk of the final session at the conference. Masha’Allah the final session had an awesome presentation about the muslims and their activities in Trinidad and Tobago followed by talks by Shaykh Waleed Basyouni, Shaykh Sadullah Khan, Shaykh Hasan Khalil, Shaykh Ibrahim adDremali, Br. Ahmed Sidky, and finally Yasir Qadhi. The presentation on the muslim community in Trinidad and Tobago definitely blew everyone away and it was definitely a very good way to end the conference because the theme was “Islam: A Light for the Ages”. No matter where you go or what time you are in Islam has flourished and will flourish, insha’Allah.

Before I forget, mad props to my an awesome brother and a great friend who got some awesome footage of the conference: Ubaid Seth, who also happen to run the Muslim Video Blog. He recorded and edited the video, masha’Allah.

TDC, ‘Eid and everything around it!

Bismillahir Rahmaan arRaheem
asSalaam ‘alaykum wa Rahmatuallaah

Wow, what a long and drawn out TDC (Texas Da’wah Convention) it has been and what a long week it has been with ‘Eid and everything. SubhanAllaah. So ‘Eid Mubarak to everyone. Well anyway, I think I am back to blogging now and perhaps some of the events of this crazy weekend might find their way onto this blog. TDC was a blast, met some of the greatest brothers ever from all across the nation. Not to mention one of the best lectures at TDC was probably the most controversial, so controversial it wont even be produced to be sold in the market, not only that no one has even recieved copy of it, not even the organizers of TDC, and it was given by none other than our brother – Abdul Rahman Chao, ask him what it was about through his blog or sign up at Crescent Youth Forums to discuss. Watching Shakh Hasan Khalil play table tennis was a sight, he is really really good! Met loads of people from multiple forums (specially alMaghrib), bloggers in the Islamoblogsphere, and people I just talked to over the phone or heard of. The best time we had was goign out to Katz’s (kosher food place) with liek 30 brothers was probably the best time I had at the conference. Not to mention staying up late till liek 3AM in the morning witht he brothers chilling, and managing to wake up for Fajr and staying up the entire day!! YES!!! Thats hwo exciting TDC is!!! It is worth sacrificing your sleep and getting only 16 hours of sleep in a periods of 4-5 days. You can’t even go to sleep int he lectures because they are really good, and once you leave them you cant even think about going to your hotel to sleep because you might miss something exciting. Followed by listening to the same jumu’ah khutbah two weeks in a row by Yasir Qadhi and then not to mention the ‘Eid khutbah by Yasir Qadhi as well, yes 3 khutbahs and 4 talks by Yasir Qadhi in a period of 10 days. Everything from slaughtering goats and skinning them, meeting some of the MSA brothers again, and also some of the UH-MSA alumni to pulling pranks on cousins and getting talked into doing some of the stupidest things ever, watching one of our popular da’ees in the West run after goats trying to get it ready for Udhiyya to distributing Qurbani meat to the Somali Refugee Camp in Houston. This has got to be one of my best weeks ever, and the good thing is, its not yet over, alhamdulillaah. I will start updating soon insha’Allah. But until then make du’aa for the muslimeen.

wasSalaam ‘alaykum wa Rahamtullaah
