  13. 13 suhila malik February 13, 2007 at 7:08 pm

    AOA
Brother Ammar Yasir Qadi, I have a few questions here if you can plse eleborate and explain them.
    1. There are 4 schools of thoughts. I usually just follow the sunnah. I don’t by any of these schools of thought. I have just been told to follow one of them, and not to pick and choose things from them to my liking. Pls confirm do we have to follow these schools of thoughts or can we just read the quran, hadits of the prophets.
    2. I have been told Tasbeen is Biddah, Why do they sell these in Medina/Mecca.
    3. Recently my brother was told he had scare of cancer in his thyroid, and my sis - collected a few relative to read surah Yasin 72 times and Ayat Karim. Then they had food infront and did hatam. I told them this was wrong and we should just all do duaas each day, and not have these hathams etc. Plse confirm if this is correct, alos ref the Quran Hatam they hold, I am totally against it. Then when it is Muharram and Prophets birth, etc, they cook sweet Kheer and send to relatives etc. I have said this is all wrong, but they need eviodence. Sorry I have only started to learn and don’t have much knowledge at all. Plse elobrate on this too.
    4. Also when we listen to Nasheeds, some of they have instruments playing in them, e.g Sami Yousaf etc. Is this acceptable or not.
    5. Also in spare time sometimes I might watch a Indian Drama, which does not have any music or anything bad in it, apart from the story could be sad or funny. Is this acceptable or not.
    6. Could you plse give me some duaas to read, I Cannot memorazie any surahs by heart, I cannot remember them at all. I want to learn so much about our deen, but it does not stay in my memory. Also I am the only one from my family who says the prayers, My Hubby will do it sometimes when he feels like it. Have 3 grown up kids, age 24, 22 and 18. They might do it once a wk only. I am so frighten for them as they totally ignore my plea when I say to them to read their Namaz. I know it’s my fault for not bringing them up strictly, and my trying now. I am 48 years old, and fear Allah so much, that he will punish me for their upbringing. I tell them each day to follow the deen, but feel I am just breaking my head to the wall. Plse confirm what I should do about all of them. My hubby is a very good man, but when it comes to Namaz he totally ignore the issue.
I would really appreicate if you could confirm my answers asap. I am feeling very depressed about the whole issue. Also when I tell my family, relatives anything I have learnt about Islam, I try to pass the message over they come with a negative answer, what new religion are you youngsters starting now. I feel scared of telling them anything becuase there is a lot of negativity. But I feel If I dont say anything on the day of judgement I will be answerable.

Jazak Allah - May Allah Grant you and you family with the best of rewards.

    Plse confirm asap.

Assalaam-o-Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullahi Wa-Rabakatuhu jazakllah khair for sucha nice book it really helps i have a question how can we see riya ?

  17. 17 sunnah April 23, 2007 at 1:36 pm

It is extremely difficult to detect or see riya coming. As the Prophet sallallaahualaihi wa sallam said:
‘It is like a black ant on a black rock in a moonless night’
When people praise you; I dont mean just saying ‘jazaq’Allaah khair’ but over praising in front of people which is not permissible. This is a means of riya coming to a person. Doing deeds in front of others, apart from if there is a benefit such as; donating so others get encouraged providing one maintains sincerity.

Assalaamu alaikum. This is a reply to suhila malik
(Feb 13th, 2007 at 7:08 pm). I hope it answers her questions.

1: The Prophets(pbuh) Sunnah is the basis for all the 4 schools of thought. I believe you need to follow the Qur’an and the Sunnah. The schools of thought might differ in the interpretation of some ahadeeth, but you shouldnt bother yourself with their differences until you have a good knowledge of the Qur’an and Sunnah. Always ask Allah for guidance. He hears you.

2: The Prophet (pbuh) would do tasbeeh on his fingers. Whether someone sells prayer beads or not, you know what the Prophet did- You can emulate that.

3:I dont know what HAtam is so I cant comment. But you were right to stop people from celebrating events that neither the Prophet (pbuh) nor the Sahabah ever celebrated. Please ask your relatives to give you evidence as to whether this kind of celebration was allowed by the Prophet.
People of Bida’a quite often say that they have to do more acts of piety than the Prophet because he was already forgiven and we are not.And that we should show more love for the Prophet because we were not with the Prophet, and therefore we need to do more than the sahabah themselves.
The truth is the Prophet(pbuh) once got angry with some Sahabah for trying to do more than him. He told tham they could not, and that their excuse that they needed more forgiveness was not valid since none of them could fear Allah as much as the Prophet(pbuh) did.
And the truth is that the best way we can truly love the Prophet (as opposed to showing love) is by following his sunnah and by sending salams regularly.
And keep on learning, sister. May Allah make your path easy. A hadeeth says that even the fish in the sea pray for those who seek knowledge.

4: Music other than the Duff is haram in Islam. It is a decietful instrument of Satan that poisons a believers heart. I do not understand the position of people who do something haram in order to attain something pure. Allah’s mercy cannot be attained by doing something He has forbidden.

5: Again, people watch these things to gain peace. Youre tired and you want to relax so you switch it on. But you dont get peace, you get numb. Its like asking a dentist to rid u of a painful cavity, and coming home to find out - he only gave you a bit of Anaesthaesia. So you feel better - but the problem hasnt gone (infact maybe the cavity got bigger - MOre Anaesthaesia!)
Allah says in the Qur’an that ‘Only in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction’.
Read the Qur’an. Go for a walk while doing zikr.
Doing a good thing will never make you feel bad. You might miss what x did to y. But guess what. Your time is running away and it is not coming back. A scholar once said,”Live as if Death had already come and you asked for respite, so Allah gave you one ”
And that now you are living that second life.

6: Allahumma ‘allimnee bil Qur’an waj’alhu lee imaamanw wa nooranw wa hudanw wa rahmatan.Allahumma zakirnee minhu ma naseetu wa allimnee minhu ma jahiltu, wa arzuqni tilawatahu anaa’il laili watrafan nahari waj’alhu lee hujjatan, ya rabbil aalameen.

Keep on praying and be patient. If you can get up for Tahajjud (the time for tahajjud starts 2 hours before fajr until fajr itself). Pray for yourself and your family. Read the Qur’an as much as you can. Allah hears all Duas, and Insha’allah if you seek help with Allah, He will help you. Allah says in the Qur’an ” Seek help through patience and prayer”
May Allah make me and you firm and strong and guide us to the Straight Path, Ameen

    Sarah
